In my previous post I mentioned that Indians are GREENER and why they ranked top in green index, but the flip side of the fact is Indians are greener not by choice. Almost three quarter billion of India do not have access to even basic necessity of life, like clean water, energy and air. Eye-opener truths...
- India ranks near bottom in Human Development Index (HDI)
- Almost 600 millions of India ( 50% of total population) do not have access to electricity or have limited access to clean fuel.Black outs are very common in rural part of India and power supply in urban India is also not so smooth.
- World's average per capita power consumption is 2707KWH, where as India's is 631 KWH (which is less than the quarter of world's average consumption).
- About 15000 habitations in the India are without any source of potable water.
- Only 86% of population of India has access to improvised water.
- Water supply in rural India is 40lpd(liter per day), far below than UN definition of basic water need 50lpd (liter per day).
- More than 90% of waste water in India discharged without treatment, without recycle and continue to pollute clean water resources like river, lakes, ponds etc.
- According to recent estimate 1.5 million children under five die each year in India due to water-borne diseases.
- Indoor air pollution in India causes death upto 55000 per year.
